About Us
Angell Delight has a long history of working with the community. The mainstay of the project is the coordinator, Mary Ekenachi, who initiated the social activities with her colleagues. At the time, Angell Delight was at the Boiler House in Lambeth Borough. Under the governance of members as an unincorporated group, the organisation made great leaps and was launched with the support of the community to a number of inclusive events.
One particular aim has been to cater for the youth and to provide a space where they could go after school. The project had a table and a pool table. This was well supported by the residents and ran from Monday to Friday. There were other activities on different days of the week which catered for all age groups, e.g. children, teenagers, adults and older people. In addition, the project provided advice and support for the older and/or disabled people in the area.
With regeneration, community space soon became a critical issue. Despite great financial restraints, 2016 has seen lots of activity and interest. As highlighted in the appendices, many high-profile agencies have booked and returned to Angell Delight. These include Professor Heidi Mirza and Akala, the renowned lyrical musician and brother of chart-topping rapper Miss Dynamite.

Let’s make a difference together
Aims
- To provide facilities that encourage a community spirit for recreation and amenity.
- To be a self-sustaining social enterprise utilising income from commercial operations such as renting meeting spaces to members of the community.
- To regularly consult and inform all members by representing the majority view, whilst championing traditionally excluded voices on the estate.
- To promote equal opportunities and work for members of the community by providing workshops, mentoring and development programmes.

Our impact and contribution to Lambeth
The reason we invest in this is because we care about the residents of the Angell Town estate.
To bring our vision to light we have partnered with several local organisations including:
CHIPs, with whom we help to bring the residents of the estate together with a community meal every last Tuesday of the month. The Christmas party every year is always our largest gathering of attendees.
We also partner with the likes of IRMO, FBB and Brixton Wings to put together what is known as “The Big Lunch”. Other organisations include Dwaynamics, Local Schools and Black Cultural Archives.
In the past we have received funding from the Local Community Foundation and Big Local Impact which has supported us to continue providing services and activities that benfit the local community and especially the residents on the Angell Town.
Alignment with Lambeth Plan Priorities
1 Enable sustainable growth and development: Providing community facilities and activities that enable such.
2 Increase community resilience: Angell Town has had a history of deprivation and disenfranchisement. The activities and services offered bring about positive affirmation, development and intervention for young people and families.
3 Promote care and independence by reforming services: Supporting the vulnerable youth and families by offering a safe space and signposting them to relevant local groups.
4 Make Lambeth a place where people want to live, work and invest: The building is offered as a leisure and culture facility available for hire and offers several enrichment programmes.
